Areas of Expertise

  • Justice Planning

RJA supports a range of urban and rural community needs and budgets and has been the regional leader in justice architecture since 1988.   Our forty years of experience ranges from a 32-bed local detention center in southern Colorado to the $378M Denver Justice Center with 1,500 pre-sentence beds.

  • Humanistic Normative Design

RJA has been involved in numerous detention center projects that have included innovative methods to minimize the impact of arrestees on the detention center operations through post-arrest diversion, and to divert arrestees from the justice system entirely via pre-arrest diversion.  RJA is committed to diversion programs to reduce jail populations, cut costs and increase efficiencies.

  • Diversions and Alternatives to Incarceration

RJA has been involved in numerous detention center projects that have included innovative methods to minimize the impact of arrestees on the detention center operations through post-arrest diversion, and to divert arrestees from the justice system entirely via pre-arrest diversion.  RJA is committed to diversion programs to reduce jail populations, cut costs and increase efficiencies.

  • Sustainability

Many RJA projects utilize innovative approaches to sustainability. For example, our Cedaredge, Colorado project is certified as LEED Gold and uses a high concentrator photovoltaic/thermal (HCPVT) system to produce electricity as well as provide a heated fluid to a heat exchanger connected to the building’s mechanical system.
